Kelsey Prihoda is the Great Lakes Transportation Extension Educator at the University of Minnesota Sea Grant College Program (Minnesota Sea Grant) and is based on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus. Kelsey’s Great Lakes Transport Extension Program is unique among the 34 Sea Grant College Programs nationally and provides education and outreach on the Great Lakes maritime transportation system and multimodal transportation of hazardous materials in the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence region. Simply put, Kelsey teaches people about Great Lakes shipping and brings people with differing perspectives together for partnership and science-informed problem solving. Prior to transitioning to an education and engagement role, Kelsey spent nearly 15 years researching ballast water management strategies and water quality. Much of that time was spent in the engine room of Great Lakes vessels sampling ballast water.
