Martha Pierpont

Martha Pierpont was born and raised in Montreal, Wis., just three miles west of Hurley. In 1963 the Montreal Mine closed and her family relocated to White Pine, Mich., where she graduated from high school in 1964. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Minnesota in 1968. She later went back to school and obtained a Master’s Degree in Nursing Science from the University of Wyoming. After teaching nursing for three years she worked as a Nurse Practitioner from 1991 until her retirement in 2016. Martha’s nursing career included many branches of nursing, including Public Health, School nurse, and hospital nurse in the ER and general medical units. As a Nurse Practitioner she provided Urgent Care for many years. While in California she worked in Hospice for 18 months. Hospice work was one of the most difficult and at the same time satisfying of all the nursing areas. Her hospice work piqued an interest in end-of-life care. Martha says, “I am especially interested in giving others a platform where they can talk freely about this time of our lives.”
