Joan has a B.S. in Zoology and a M.S. in Environmental Science. She has conducted breeding and migratory bird surveys and research for state and federal agencies and Tribes. She has also led bird walks (and birding by bicycle) at the Ashland Birding and Nature Fest and assisted with bird banding at the Field Nature Education Center. Joan retired from the National Park Service where she was Senior Aquatic Ecologist for the Great Lakes Inventory and Monitoring Network.
