Callie Bates is the author of the Waking Land series, published by Del Rey Books. She has also written various essays and short fiction that have been anthologized in diverse publications from The Best Buddhist Writing 2012 to Unfettered III. She is an artist, harpist and certified harp therapist, and when not doing any of the above, can generally be found exploring new places or searching for the perfect cup of tea (often both). Plus she holds a BA minor in Art History (along with hours of personal research over the years, specifically on Leonardo da Vinci), which might generously be considered license for her to teach people about art in the Italian Renaissance. As a writer, she is at her happiest when she finds ways to create with a sense of playfulness, joy and ease.
