Frederick Douglass

Community Event: BLACK HISTORY MONTH AT GCC FEB 28

Steve Cole, who lives in Ironwood, will be coming to speak at Gogebic Community College for Black History Month. Steve takes on the role of Frederick Douglass, with a 20-minute talk and ending with a 10-minute Q&A session.

Frederick Douglass was a formerly enslaved man who became a prominent activist, author, and public speaker. He became a leader in the abolitionist movement, which sought to end the practice of slavery, before and during the Civil War. After that conflict and the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862, he continued to push for equality and human rights.

This idea originated because of collaboration with members of the Ironwood, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team.

Please join Gogebic Community College in the LSCC Gym on Monday, February 28 at 10:30am for this unique and informative event, which is free of charge and open to the community.

The event will also be live streamed at: https://www.twitch.tv/gogebic_bot.
