Still Learning 11: Discovering Family History – Genealogy Basics

May 1 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$10.00

This course will take place on May 1 and 8, 2025, in Mercer, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., with Emmie Norton.

Participants will learn the basics of getting started on their own family history through genealogical research in the most efficient manner possible. Getting one’s research organization plan will be described. Primarily free Internet resources will
be covered and utilized in class. There will be short descriptions of the major subscription based websites. Genealogy software will be discussed. We will do live searches in both classes.

Requirements: Since most genealogical research occurs on the Internet, students should have some basic experience with computers and Internet searches or be willing to learn. Family history research knowledge will still be useful to those who are less proficient with online searches. Prior to class one, the instructor will ask for some basic information from students about their own family history questions. There will be some simple homework tasks after the first class.

The course will be given in two sessions, each 120 minutes long, at the Mercer Public Library.

We recommend signing up at least two weeks ahead of class to ensure class fills and to prevent cancellation.

This course is limited to 15 students.

Instructor: Emmie Norton
