Great Art Museums of Europe: A Virtual Tour

$40.00 – $45.00This course will take place on Tuesdays, April 29 and May 6, 13 and 20, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Mercer Public Library, with David Barnhill.
The “Great Art Museums of Europe” course will introduce students to a wide range of art museums in Europe. This will be a
virtual art tour, and students will be introduced to great works of art (mainly paintings) from the Renaissance to the 20th century at the various museums. Students will not only learn about these museums and these works of art, but become inspired by them and perceive the world in a deeper way
The course will begin with a very short summary of European art history starting with the Renaissance.
- London. We will tour the National Gallery, Tate Britain, the British Museum, the Courtauld Gallery, the Wallace Collection, and Tate Modern.
- Netherlands. We will visit the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Kröller-Müller Museum, Museum Boijmans-van Beuningen, and the Mauritshuis.
- Paris. The tour will include the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, Musée Marmottan, the Musée de l’Orangerie, Petit Palais, and Musée Rodin.
- Other locations. To be selected from the following: The Hermitage (St. Petersburg), The National Museum of Norway, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen),The Art Museum of Basel (Switzerland), Museum Folkwang (Essen, Germany), Neue Pinakothek (Munich), Gemäldegalerie (Berlin), Kunsthistorisches Museum (Vienna), Uffizi Gallery (Florence), Vatican Museums, Prado (Madrid), Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum (Madrid).
Requirements: The only requirement is an interest in art. There will be no homework, and handouts will be provided on the museums and an outline of art history
This class is limited to 12 students.

Course Cancellations: Students are encouraged to register at least 2 weeks before the beginning of any Fe University course. A course with less than 4 students 2 weeks before the start date may be cancelled at instructor/FeU discretion, with students’ registrations refunded. Student Cancellations: If a registered student cancels, registration can be refunded if requested 4 or more days before the course’s start date. We’re afraid cancellation requests made 3 or fewer days before the course’s start date are unable to be refunded.
