An Introduction to Winter Dog-Powered Sports

$65.00 – $75.00We will spend approximately one hour inside for a presentation/discussion and lunch before we go out to meet the dogs. Participants will learn about the various types of equipment including harnesses, ganglines, sled types and skis. We will also discuss how to work with the dogs and what to expect once you are driving the sled. And of course, we will talk about dogs.
Following the indoor session participants will be hands-on:
· Hooking the gangline to the sled
· Hooking the team to the sled
· Driving a dog team
For those comfortable on skis, we will include a skijoring lesson following dog sledding. This will also be demonstrated.
This class will be open to younger students including 14-17-year-olds accompanied by a legal guardian.
Requirements: Participants should be able to stand on the sled runners, with legs spread about shoulder width apart, grasp the sled handle in front of them with both hands and…HOLD ON!!!
Covid-19 Requirements: All participants must be fully vaccinated and wear masks while indoors or in close proximity to others.
