DESCRIPTION:This class has been canceled. This class will take place November 1\, 8\, 15 and 22\, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.\, at Mercer Public Library\, with library director Teresa Schmidt.\nWeek 1: What is information literacy?  \nWe’ll talk about how access to information affects our lives and everyday decisions; what it means to be information literate; how publishing and media work and why it matters; and how information\, misinformation\, and disinformation is shared in the 21st century. \nWeek 2: Fake news\, misinformation\, and disinformation \nLearn to evaluate information and be a savvy media consumer\, online and IRL. \nWeek 3: If it seems too good to be true…  \nThis week is all about the scam industry. Learn about common scams and their red flags\, how to avoid them\, and what to do if you or someone you love gets caught in one. \nWeek 4: Do your own research\, and the future of misinformation \nSo what do you do when you have an information need? What does it mean to “do your own research“? We’ll discuss more resources for quality information\, online and in real life.
