An option to watch live via Zoom is also available upon request for registered students.\nNoted historian Kerry Bloedorn will explore the Northwoods of Wisconsin’s captivating history\, from the glaciation that sculpted the land and set the stage for the 1800s logging boom to the gritty lives of the lumberjacks who fueled the industry. Explore how the Civilian Conservation Corps restored the forests in the 1930s\, the evolution of forestry products from lumber to paper\, and the innovations that shaped the modern forests we see today. Kerry’s presentations are filled with great stories and historic photos. \nKerry Bloedorn serves as the Director and Curator of Pioneer Park Historical Complex in Rhinelander\, Wis.\, home to the nation’s oldest Logging Museum\, founded in 1932\, along with six other museums celebrating Wisconsin’s rich Northwoods history. DESCRIPTION:This course will take place on Wednesdays\, April 22\, 29\, May 6 and 13\, 2026\, Noon-1:30 p.m. at the Mercer Community Center\, with Don Dugan.\nRather than focusing on theory and isolated techniques\, this course–a follow-up to Fe University’s “Intermediate Guitar” course with Don Dugan in October 2025–will consist of application of technique to 6-8 classic songs. Works of the Eagles\, Dylan\, Willie Nelson\, etc. will be featured. \nInstructor Don Dugan of Mercer has been playing guitar for 50+ years. He has learned through some formal lessons\, but is mostly self taught. DESCRIPTION:This class has been cancelled for May 2026 due to medical reasons. \nThis course will take place on Tuesdays\, April 28\, May 5\, 12 and 19\, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Mercer Public Library\, with David Barnhill. \n“Art History: American Landscape Painting” will introduce students to the rich tradition of landscape art in the United States. Students will become familiar with the compelling representations of nature and the complex development of American landscape painting. The result will be a deeper understanding\nand appreciation of our country’s impressive nature art. \nThere will be four sessions\, each two hours long: \n\nEuropean landscape painting and the beginnings of American landscape painting. \nFrederic Church and Albert Bierstadt. \nThomas Moran and George Inness.\nAmerican Impressionism\, & Georgia O’Keeffe.\n\nRequirements: The only requirement is an interest in art.
