SUMMARY:Visioning: Responding to Nature Through Drawing and Painting
DESCRIPTION:This class will take place at Dillman’s Bay Resort on August 1\, 9:00 a.m.-Noon\, with Terry Daulton.\nThis is part of our series Visioning: Responding to Nature\, which is offered in partnership with Dillman’s Art Workshops.  \nWe thank Dillman’s for their generosity in working with us. Dillman’s is a beautiful Northwoods resort with a world-class art workshop series\, and we are grateful to be offering these classes with them. \nVisioning: Responding to Nature Through Drawing and Painting\nJoin artist/ illustrator and naturalist Terry Daulton for a fun day in the outdoors exploring Northwoods habitats with sketchpad and a variety of art mediums.  Terry has been creating art on location for many years and will share tips on watercolor\, sketch pencil\, ink\, as well as techniques for illustrating plants\, animals and landscapes. SUMMARY:Wisconsin's Last Undeveloped Lakes: Paddling Mud Lake
DESCRIPTION:This class will take place on August 5\, 9:00a.m.-Noon\, at Mud Lake\, with John Bates.\nParticipants will gain a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the remarkable community of life typically found in a northern lake\, and in particular\, in Mud Lake\, a 55-acre shallow\, 7-feet-deep wild rice lake that has never seen any development. As time permits\, we may paddle a ways down and back on Little Bear Creek. \nClass will cover the following topics: aquatic plant species identification and ecology\, shoreland plant composition and its connection to water quality\, general natural history of bird/amphibian/mammal/insect species of the lake\, the importance of lake morphology\, and\, of course\, “cover” the importance of beauty in our lives\, but also let the beauty of the lake speak for itself. \nClass will paddle slow and stop frequently to discuss the attributes of the lake. \nRequirements: Participants must have their own pfd\, paddle\, and canoe or kayak\, and must be at least a reasonably experienced paddler. \nInstructor: John Bates \nThis course qualifies for advanced training hours for Master Naturalists. \nThis course is limited to 13 students. \nLocation: Meet at the Sandy Beach Lake picnic area\, Sandy Beach Road off of Powell Road.
