2. How to “Do Music”, Part 1, Mondays, August 9, 16, 23, 30,  3:00-5:00 PM with retired music teacher, Rusty Wulff. Mercer location to be determined. Fee $35. Limit 8 students.

This class is designed to give the adult beginning/inexperienced musician opportunities to engage with music involving listening, learning, and playing.

Requirements: No experience necessary. Just curiosity. And a functional/playable acoustic (or non-amplified) guitar. Take notes as individuals prefer. Instructor will provide African hand drums.
Session 1. Introductions, Overview. Intro to Rhythm/African drumming (hearing, history, class call/response, making). Intro to Melody (hearing, making, major/minor tonality).

Session 2. Review. Intro to guitar (Parts, strings names/numbers, strumming/picking, simple C & G7 chords. Day 2 of Rhythm, continue. Day 2 of melody hearing/writing, continue. Adding complementary accompaniment. Integrating melody & rhythm.

Session 3. Review. Day 2 guitar, continue others.

Session 4. Class interest inventory (future offerings, etc). Class potpourri activity(s).
